Track Storms With High-Resolution Weather Maps

We believe that the "Maps" screen in OpenSnow is one of the most underutilized features of our service and the All-Access subscription.

Our high-resolution maps allow you to track incoming storms with current and forecast radar, view the estimated snow depth for any location in the United States, see how the avalanche conditions are trending over the past 7 days, and much more.

How do I get started?

  1. Tap the "Maps" tab
  2. Choose your "Base" map
  3. Select your "Overlay" map

Check out the following examples to see just how useful our maps can be not just for your mountain adventures but also as your daily driver for getting current conditions in your backyard...

Current & Forecast Radar

Track incoming storms with our "Radar" or "Forecast Radar" overlays.

  1. Tap the "Maps" tab
  2. Tap the large "Overlay" button
  3. Select the "Radar" or "Forecast Radar" overlay

The current "Radar" is updated every 8 minutes to help you track ongoing precipitation, while the "Forecast Radar" is updated every hour and allows you to view the forecasted precipitation for the next 2 days.

Estimated Snow Depth

View the estimated "Snow Depth" for the United States and southern Canada.

  1. Tap the "Maps" tab
  2. Tap the "Overlay" button
  3. Select the "Snow Depth" overlay

Please keep in mind that this data is estimated and most of the time it is either close or in the ballpark compared to reality.

Cloud Cover

View the forecasted "Cloud Cover" over the United States and southern Canada.

  1. Tap the "Maps" tab
  2. Tap the "Overlay" button
  3. Select the "Cloud Cover" overlay

This overlay is updated every hour and allows you to view the forecasted cloud coverage for the next 2 days.

Avalanche Forecasts

View the real-time avalanche forecast and conditions information for the United States and Canada.

  1. Tap the "Maps" tab
  2. Tap the "Overlay" button
  3. Select the "Avalanche Forecast" overlay

Our animation tool also provides the historical avalanche forecast for the past 7 days so that you can quickly see how conditions are trending over time.

Get Forecasts Anywhere on Earth

View the forecast for any location on Earth in OpenSnow.

  1. Tap the "Maps" tab
  2. Tap anywhere (on land), worldwide
  3. Tap "View Forecast"

Yes, this means that you can use our "Maps" screen and weather forecasts for your favorite backcountry ski location, camping destination, London, Denali, and yes, even for your home neighborhood or current location.
