Early-season snow is exciting but it can also be extremely hazardous.

According to the Utah Avalanche Center, since 2010, over 60% of avalanche fatalities have involved avalanches breaking on early-season snow. Watch this presentation from the UAC on tracking early-season snow and how it may form persistent weak layers, as well as how those layers heal.
