Hopeful 2018 Will Begin to Deliver

Summary

A weak storm due Saturday night into early Sunday will bring our most significant snowfall of the year, a couple of inches due for AZSB, woohoo. A much more hearty system is likely mid next week.

Short Term Forecast

Increasing clouds and mild temperatures are in the forecast Saturday as a weak system approaches the region. Saturday overnight light snow will fall on Peaks with a couple of inches of fresh for Sunday morning turns. Sunday will be a sunny and mild day. Models have been consistently trending towards a significant winter storm to begin impacting northern AZ beginning Monday and going through Wednesday. Light high elevation snow may accompany a warm front entering Monday afternoon though very little accumulation is initially expected. Late Tuesday the main system enters with snow developing towards the end of the day. Overnight into Wednesday morning is the brunt of the storm with close to a foot of snow possible for Wednesday morning! Light snow showers Wednesday day.

Hopefully a promising update here early next week.

Extended Forecast

Strong high pressure quickly rebuilds behind the midweek storm exit, and holds for a week or so. The positive news...this ridge doesn't appear to be as anchored as the last, beginning around the 18th storm window reopens in an encouraging looking way.

Time to pick up that pass and start thinking winter.
