Tuesday pow, more on the way

Update

A quick shot of intense snow hit most central and northern mountains on Monday night, and the result is respectable totals now on Tuesday morning.

  • Winter Park - 7”
  • Loveland - 5”
  • Abasin - 4”

Here is the Tuesday morning snow stake camera at Winter Park, showing about 8 inches:

Most of the snow during the rest of Tuesday will fall in the southern mountains, and there should be another wave of snow showers in the northern and central mountains on Tuesday afternoon and evening, and this could be enough to keep the snow soft and fresh for first chair on Wednesday morning.

Wednesday will be mostly dry, then the next wave of snow will hit on Wednesday night and this should bring another 4-8+ inches for Thursday morning. I think we’ll continue to see snow showers on Thursday and Friday, but I don’t know if these showers will result in much additional accumulation. Stay tuned.

From Friday night through Saturday night, another wave of snow could bring the best accumulations to areas near and especially east of the divide. This storm is still giving the models fits, thus confidence in the forecast is still low. It’s possible that backcountry areas east of the divide will have fresh snow on Saturday will sunny skies and cool temperatures to start the day on Sunday.

Looking ahead to next week, I think the drier weather on Sunday will carry over to Monday, then we’ll see another storm sometime between Monday night and Wednesday morning, so next Tuesday and/or Wednesday could also be powder days.

To my knowledge, the only resorts open full time through April 30 are Abasin, Loveland, and Mary Jane (part of Winter Park). Then after the 30th, only Abasin and Loveland will be open full time. Some resorts occasionally choose to re-open for certain days, usually weekends, so keep your eye on resort web pages or social feeds to see if there will be any additional skiing this winter due to the late-season snow.

Hope you’re enjoying the pow!
