Update

Light snow began to fall early Thursday morning, and as of 7 am, there is about 1 inch on the mid-mountain snow stake camera. For the rest of Thursday, expect times of light-to-moderate snow as a storm tracks over extreme northern Colorado, just to the north of Copper. Temperatures should hold steady in the mid-20s and summit winds will gust into the 30-50mph range (breezy but not super uncomfortable).

We will likely see more dry weather then snow from Thursday night through Friday night, and then another wave of energy should bring a period of steady snow late Friday night or Saturday. You’ll likely find another few inches of powder on Saturday as long as the forecast models do not change too much (I have low confidence in predicting the detailed timing of any snow during the next few days because the various forecast models do not agree).

Following Saturday’s snow, we might see lighter or no snow from Saturday night through Monday, and then the strongest wave of energy should move through on Monday night and Tuesday. I have reasonable confidence that Tuesday will be a powder day, so keep that on your radar. If we do see light snow between now and then, the base will be soft, and then the fresh snow that falls on Monday night and Tuesday should ski very well.

This storm cycle will be rather warm (highs in the 20s) and will also bring windy conditions. Both of these factors should make the powder a little thicker and “surfy”.

Thanks for reading and stay tuned for an update each morning!
