Brace Yourselves

Summary

Heavy snow and snow-packed road surfaces on Wednesday. Break on Thursday before another round of healthy accumulations takes aim for the mountain corridor on Thursday night and into Friday. Mostly dry this weekend and through next week ahead of a good-looking storm track for the final ~10 days of January.

Short Term Forecast

Our next round of snow is quickly making its way into the I-70 mountain corridor on Wednesday morning. In the words of Jon Snow...

Snowfall rates will steadily increase by midday, with soft turns at the resorts and snow-packed road surfaces from west of Georgetown through Vail. Keep an eye on CDOT for the latest travel updates.

Moderate to heavy snow will then continue into Wednesday night before things quiet down by Thursday morning. In total, look for reports of 3-6+ inches on Thursday morning.

Soft turns and quiet weather will then be the story on Thursday ahead of another good-looking system for Thursday night. Moderate to heavy snow will fall through midday Friday, with 2-4 inches by Friday morning's report, followed by an additional 2-4 inches through Friday morning.

As I've been mentioning over the past few days, all vehicles should be prepared with snow tires, AWD/4WD, and/or chains on Wednesday and again on Thursday night and Friday morning. Accidents and subsequent road closures will be almost certain so give yourself plenty of extra travel time and keep an eye on CDOT for the latest updates.

Mostly sunny skies will then prevail on Saturday and Sunday. Mid-mountain temperatures will be in the 20s, with all road surfaces becoming clear and dry.

Extended Forecast

Looking further ahead, we should remain mostly dry through next week but I can't totally rule out chances for snow from the 15th through the 17th.

We'll then be solely focused on the 19th and 20th for the snow machine to crank back up over Colorado. More details to come over the next week.

Thanks for reading and let it snow!
