Cold and Dry Take Center Stage

Summary

In the wake of the latest Pacific storm system, we are transitioning to a cold and dry weather regime that will settle in over the next few days and remain well into next week. The next chance of snow is Wednesday February 1st, but I’m looking at a better chance the following weekend. In the meantime, there are lots of activities going on so be sure to check out the announcements below.

Short Term Forecast

If you like what you see here, there’s plenty more to go around.

Today through Thursday

It’s already much colder this morning as recorded at our weather stations on the mountain. Sun Valley is reporting 7 degrees. Here’s a look at the progression of the drier and colder air spilling into the region from Canada. It’s a water vapor satellite picture from space (in the Gray colors, compared to the moist air in Blue colors). We’ve still got a few clouds that may produce snow flurries today and Thursday as our recent storm continues to move out of eastern Idaho. Otherwise it will just be cold and dry.

Friday January 27 through Tuesday January 31st

We will see a wholesale weather pattern change over the period, transitioning from a trough of low pressure (in Blue colors) to a ridge of high pressure (in Pink colors).  This basically means that warmer air in the upper atmosphere will over ride colder air that will be trapped in the valleys above a wicked nice snow pack.  We’ll see blue skies up on the hill and temperatures in the 20s through the weekend and into next week. Morning starts will be chilly, so be prepared.

Extended Forecast

Wednesday February 1 through Monday February 6

We’re still looking at the possibility of our next snow maker arriving by mid-week, but more likely the snow machine will fire up over next weekend. Stay tuned.

Thanks for reading.
