Rain... Again...

Summary

Rain today, temperatures will see a slight decrease due to the cold front behind this line of storms. Expect rain for Sunday as well.

Short Term Forecast

Good morning everyone, I hope you got to enjoy the warm weather yesterday. I also hope it was enjoyable on the slopes as well, even if the snow was extremely clumpy and malleable. Currently the region is observing a line of precipitation moving through Vermont. These showers have the potential to be heavy at times; this band will move across the entire region so expect the snowpack at your local resort to receive a decent amount of rain today. On the bright side, temperatures will look to slightly decrease as these storms move through. Highs today around northern Vermont will be in the lower 40’s today; and the Whites are eyeing the upper 40’s for a high as well. Spring is here everyone, and it’s really letting its presence known. Here is the current radar image:

For the rest of the work week, there won’t be any new precipitation for the region. High pressure will move into New England as today’s storm move out to sea. This higher pressure will bring clear skies, and keep temperatures at the unseasonable high they’re currently at. Most of the resorts around the Whites will continue to see highs in the upper 40’s to lower 50’s. Conditions are already poor moving into today, don’t expect them to get much better for the rest of the work week. Temperatures will continue to drop below freezing overnight as well, so expect icing conditions to be prevalent around the slopes. Your best shot at decent conditions this week would be Jay Peak, or Sunday River. They’re north enough where snow melt has been at a minimum, and will continue to have lower temperatures than the rest of the resorts. Here is the current temperature forecast for this week.

Extended Forecast

Looking ahead to this weekend, there will be yet another rain system on the horizon. Saturday is going to have clear skies for the mountains, but Sunday will bring scattered showers for the region. This looks to be another long and drawn out storm for New England. Ironically Sunday is the last day for a lot of resorts, so the last runs of the season might be accompanied with on and off showers at your local mountain. A lot of places will be closing for the season following this weekend, so if you’re wondering what day to head up, Saturday is the obvious choice. Conditions will still be on the poor side as the snowpack continues to melt, but Sunday will just be a dreary day. Here is current storm track for Saturday:

That’s all we have for you today, the season is sadly coming to an end, but there are still a few days left if you really want to get a few more runs in. Have a great day everyone!
