Update

Weak storm systems are sliding over Colorado's northern mountains and this is leading to clouds, cold air, and very light snowfall at Steamboat. On Wednesday, the summit snow stake camera showed a coating to an inch of snow, and I think we'll see a similar situation with a coating to 2 inches of snow from Thursday morning to Thursday late evening. Temperatures are chilly with readings around 10F at the base and in the single digits on the hill, so bundle up!

Looking ahead, temperatures will begin a warming trend with highs in the 20s on Friday and into the 30s over the weekend and next week. The weather pattern over the weekend and next week will lead to dry and mostly sunny weather as most of the storms head far north into northern Canada and then dive east toward the east coast.

We might be able to break this pattern with a system on or around December 17th, though that's a long way out and I do not have much confidence in the details of the 10-day forecast. Steamboat is well positioned in northern Colorado to take advantage of just a slight southward adjustment in this weather pattern, so I am hoping for the best but do not see any concrete signs of when the storm track will change. In the meantime, let's be thankful for colder temperatures and the hardworking crews that are making snow!
