Summary:

Cooler and unsettled weather has moved in for the rest of the week.  We will stay dry with storms staying to our North, but it will be breezy especially in the higher elevations.  By the weekend the trough will begin to dig down the West Coast with colder air by Sunday and a chance for light snow showers into next Monday.  A deeper and colder trough may begin to dig down the coast next week arriving around midweek with more cold and possible snow.

Details:

Not much change to the forecast.  It is windy this morning and winds will stay breezy through the week for the mountains.  Highs may only be in the 30's in the higher elevations the next few days.  A system will move through to our North on Wednesday but it looks like the precip will stay to our North.

This weekend we are still watching for the trough to dig further South with colder air moving in.  We could also see some light snow showers Sunday into Monday.  The higher forecasted precip totals I posted in the last post were coming in next Tuesday with the subsequent trough which is slightly delayed on recent model runs. 

The deeper trough and stronger system for next week has slowed on the model runs to arrive wed-thu instead of tue-wed.  Still more confidence in a colder pattern than a snowy one.  But the ridge is gone from the West starting today and a more active and colder pattern the next 2 weeks.  As subsequent troughs try to dig into the West Coast next week we may see a storm pull in enough moisture for some decent snow.  We will keep an eye on the one for the middle of next week.

The ensemble runs of the models show the possibility of cold troughs continuing until mid-month.  It could be the most unsettled 2 week period so far this year.  If this was the heart of Winter that could mean lots of snow.  This time of year it means colder than average temperatures and possible snow.  The storms tend to cutoff this time of year and nailing down the timing and track and be more of a challenge.
