Deeper every day

Summary

Snow will fall on-and-off through Wednesday and this light snow will add up to fun powder through the week. Then we should see a break in the snow on Thursday into Friday before the next wave brings more flakes on from Saturday through Sunday night. We’ll likely see drier weather for at least a few days next week.

Short Term Forecast

Sam Collentine will be off the grid at the Skinner Hut in central Colorado through Tuesday, February 28th. Joel Gratz will be taking over the forecast duties until Sam returns.

Between Sunday morning and Monday morning, Jackson Hole picked up 3 inches and Grand Targhee measured 2 inches. It makes sense that JHMR would receive a bit more snow than GT because the wind direction is from the southwest, and this favors JHMR a bit more than GT.

The forecast through Wednesday night is for nearly continuous light snow, dropping down a few inches each day and night. The wind direction through Tuesday night should continue to blow from the southwest, favoring JHMR, and then the wind will make a slight shift and blow from the west on Wednesday into Thursday, which could slightly favor Grand Targhee.

Total snowfall through Wednesday night should be in the 8-16 inch range.

This consistent, light snowfall across many days does not garner the headlines but it does usually result in deeper-than-expected powder and fun conditions, so I hope you can get out to enjoy it, especially on Wednesday and Thursday morning.

Extended Forecast

We should see a turn toward drier weather (maybe still a few snow showers) on Thursday and Friday, then the next storm will bring snow from Saturday through Sunday night. There are still considerable differences in the models, so I don’t have much confidence in snow amounts. But I do think that Sunday and perhaps Monday morning will be powder days, so keep your schedule clear and stay tuned!

If you love pow, then try as much as you can for the next 7 days as the weather should turn drier for at least a few days between March 6-10.
