Lighter totals through early next week

Summary

Scattered showers on Thursday. Dry on Friday, followed by another round of snow on Friday night and Saturday. Mostly dry on Sunday. Another round of snow on Monday and Tuesday and possibly later next week.

Short Term Forecast

Jackson Hole is reporting 4 inches over the past 48 hours, with 3 inches coming out of Grand Targhee. My forecast on Tuesday morning called for 3-8 inches through Thursday so I feel okay about these totals.

The rest of Thursday will feature scattered rain and high-elevation snow showers. Jackson Hole (above 8,000 feet) and Grand Targhee are looking at a trace to maybe two inches for Friday morning's report.

Partly to mostly sunny skies will then prevail for Friday, with mid-mountain highs in the low-to-mid 30s.

Increasing cloud cover will be the story on Friday evening before we see our next round of snow on Friday night and into Saturday. We should be looking at 2-5 inches by Sunday morning, with the second half of Saturday and first chair Sunday being the best times to catch soft turns.

Extended Forecast

After another break on Sunday, we'll have our eyes on Sunday night through Tuesday for another round of moderate totals. Here's a look at the latest snow forecast, according to the American GFS, through Tuesday night.

So in general, we aren't looking at big totals but multiple rounds of snow will add up and continue to provide soft conditions as we enter the final week of March.

Looking further ahead, all longer-range models keep the storm train heading into the West. We should see a slight break late next week before another storm enters the picture for the weekend of April 1st and 2nd.
