Winter coming to an end

Summary

Only a dusting of snow at best in the forecast for the next week with an active pattern of warm systems moving across the region.

Short Term Forecast

Monday looks to be a quiet and warm day across southern and central Minnesota and Wisconsin ahead of a high pressure system moving in from Canada. While it does have a little moisture associated with it, most of the moisture will stay along the international border where it will fall as mixed precip with very little chance of any accumulation of snow.

As the high moves in for the midweek, temperatures will stay right around normal, maybe a few degrees above where this is no snowpack. This high will also keep any precipitation south of our area until it moves off to the west on Wednesday evening.

The next chance for precipitation to return will be another cold front being dragged across the region by a low pressure system well into Canada on Wednesday. As with the system we saw last week, it will be on the warmer side and not contain too much moisture. So with all of that being said, looks like mostly rain showers overnight Wednesday into Thursday for central MN/WI, with maybe a chance for some sleet further north. That being said, nobody should be getting more than a dusting by Thursday afternoon.

Extended Forecast

The active weather stick around into Friday with a slow moving low forming over Colorado in the lee of the Rockies. Once again, as with last week, this storm will be on the warmer side with everyone seeing rain. The only chance for snow I see is during the overnight hours on Friday into Saturday where the colder overnight temperatures and snowpack further north in northern MN/WI and the UP could allow for it to switch over to snow for a few hours. That being said, doesn’t look like any accumulations over an inch or two by Saturday afternoon.

Looking ahead way into next week, another low will move across the plains on Monday-Wednesday next week. However, seeing that we are getting very close to April, it will take something impressive to get it to switch over to snow.
