Summary

In the west, dry and warm weather of the past few weeks will be replaced with powder as we head into the final 10 days of March and early April. California and Colorado appear to be two areas that might receive the most snow during the next 2 weeks, but all areas will get back into the powder game, so I don’t want to give the impression that good snow will be found in only a few locations.

Short Term Forecast

Last week was all about the northeast as many mountains reported 30-50 inches of snow between March 14-16.

This week, the weather pattern will transition to favor the western US. Here is the snow forecast for March 20-25. Most states will receive snow, and the main storm will slow down and strengthen over eastern Colorado on Thursday and Friday, which could mean 1-2 feet for the eastern mountains.

During the upcoming weekend and through early next week, the west will continue to get pounded with powder.

The map of temperature compared to average shows how the west will cool off next week while warmer air moves east.

Extended Forecast

As we head into early April, the weather pattern will hang tight with cool air over the Rockies and warmer air over the west.

This likely means that that we’ll see more powder for the Rockies through early April. Many people think of April as the time to start mountain biking, but my deepest powder day of all time occurred in early April, so don't discount the possibility of powder for the next few weeks!
