Whistler to see more snow accumulation by later in October

Update

Hello Whistler Skiers:

Snow will begin to slowly accumulate above about 6,000 during October. More significant snow will be seen late in October and November. Certainly, we can see storms are getting stronger as fall unfolds.

The seasonal weather outlook is mild for this winter. El Nino is in play and that tilts the odds for a few more mild storms. The good news is all the good skiing at Whistler is at the higher elevations, which is less vulnerable to wet snow or rain – but not completely immune. However, after skiing, have your waterproof clothing handy for walking around the Village.

Whistler has some of the most reliable early (and late) season skiing available anywhere. I almost always ski there in December and it can be fantastic – with mainly natural snow, but they do some snowmaking to help the frequently skied areas.

Check my OpenSnow Northwest forecast for additional and more frequent updates this fall.

W/B Improvements:

New ten person gondola from the base of Backcomb replaces Wizard and Solar…that will keep you dry heading up while speeding up your early day. Also, this new gondola will relieve crowd pressure from the Whistler gondola in the morning!

Emerald four-person chair will now be a new six-pack– that should help the occasional long line in that area – perfect area for the family and kids.

Catskinner triple will now be a new high-speed four-person lift – this will breath new life, into a sometimes forgotten area of Blackcomb -- good intermediate area (feeds terrain park) but also some good often overlooked power stashes near black diamond Bark Sandwich run area.

I’ll have more updates on this site in October, but also check my Open Snow Northwest site for additional and more frequent updates this fall.
