Ups and Downs with Temps, Unsettled Pattern on Horizon

Summary

Temps and wind are the focus of the weekday forecast. Beginning Super Bowl Sunday into next week there will be more interesting things to watch and discuss.

Short Term Forecast

Chilly post frontal breezes on this sunny Tuesday. Afternoon temps will rebound 10 degrees or so on a quiet Wednesday. Wednesday night into Thursday a moisture starved cold front will usher in another cool down along with gusty northerly winds. Friday breezes back to southwesterly and temperatures warm as a trough develops off northern California, digging into southern California Saturday with increasing southwest winds. Models take the storm further south into Baja Sunday and eastward through Mexico Monday. This southerly track does not bode well for a significant snow event for Arizona. A minor shift to a more northerly track would make a world of difference and bares watching over the coming model runs.

Saturday storm position looks exciting at a glance,

but it looks to dive south Sunday,

remaining on a southerly track Monday, boo.

Extended Forecast

Models keep an active Western pattern going through the medium range, though not looking Arizona favorable at the moment. Valentine's day - Wednesday storm appears moisture starved. A couple subsequent storms showing up in the model runs though too early to know. Things to watch at least.
