Australia Daily Snow

By Mike O'Connor, Meteorologist Posted 9 months ago September 25, 2024
Sunny days ahead with some snow top ups for the last week
Summary
In the last week of the Australian snow season, Perisher remains open until Sunday. Warm winds and rain on Wednesday will reduce the snowpack, but a cold southerly change overnight will bring 10-20cm of snow in New South Wales and up to 10cm in Victoria. Despite the dense snow, conditions will improve for Perisher's mostly sunny final days.
Short Term Forecast
Wednesday & Thursday (25th & 26th September)
Wednesday will be rainy, especially in New South Wales, where heavy downpours and strong northwest winds are expected, easing by the afternoon. A cold southerly change overnight will bring snow to lower elevations. By Thursday, snow will clear from Victoria in the early morning and from New South Wales by late morning, leaving sunny skies and fresh snow as southeast winds gradually weaken.
Friday & the Weekend (27th to 29th September)
Friday will start chilly but turn into a clear, calm day with light winds. Saturday will be sunny and warm with developing northerly breezes. On Sunday, the season's final day, warm northwesterlies and increasing clouds will bring afternoon rain to Victoria and evening showers to New South Wales.
Extended Forecast
Next week, warm temperatures are expected with little to no snowfall, leading to a quick melt of the remaining snowpack as the Australian snow season comes to an end. Time to trade the slopes for the beach!
Thanks for reading. I'll continue to provide these forecasts every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday throughout the southern hemisphere season.
