Forecast Now Picking More Snow For Wed & Thu

Summary

The Australian Alps saw 30-50cm of fresh powder over the weekend with cold temps maintaining good conditions. An East Coast storm will bring increasing clouds and southerly winds Monday and Tuesday. Snow is expected Wednesday but may turn to rain at lower levels by late day, clearing Thursday. Snowfall totals could vary from 10 to 40cm depending on elevation and storm track.

Short Term Forecast

Forecast for Monday 30th June & Tuesday 1st July

Monday will see a light southerly breeze introducing some cloud cover and possibly a few light snow showers at some resorts. On Tuesday, southeast winds will pick up, spreading cloud across the Australian Alps. Victoria can expect light rain or drizzle through the day, except for Mt Buller which may stay dry, with wet weather moving into New South Wales by evening. Snow is likely to fall down to the middle elevations.

Forecast for Wednesday 2nd and Thursday 3rd July

On Wednesday, southerly winds will strengthen, bringing widespread and possibly heavy snow that will be dense, with temperatures near freezing at some resort bases. Snow levels will rise by evening, changing to rain at lower elevations. The rain and high-level snow will gradually ease by Thursday as the winds calm, leading to clearer skies.

Extended Forecast

Friday will see calm and clear conditions thanks to a ridge of high pressure, while Saturday will become windier with northwest gusts ahead of a weak front arriving on Sunday that could bring some rain and snow on the upper slopes.

For the following week, forecasts indicate a western storm moving through midweek to the end of the week, potentially dropping a good amount of fresh snow. Here’s hoping it materializes!

Thanks for reading. The next forecast will be out early Wednesday.
