Cold Southeasterlies Warm & Turn Northwards this Weekend

Summary

Cold southeasterlies brought cloud and light snow to the Australian Alps, with snowmaking helping recover lower slopes after recent rain. Light snow will continue into Saturday before warmer, wetter weather returns. A high then clears things for a fine Sunday and Monday.

Short Term Forecast

Forecast for Friday 1st & Saturday 2nd August

Chilly easterlies bring cloud and snow flurries on Friday, increasing later in the day. Saturday stays mostly cloudy with light snow turning to rain on lower slopes, though Mt Buller should remain dry amid brisk to strong winds.

Forecast for Sunday 3rd to Tuesday 5th August

Sunday brings sunshine to Victoria with mild northerlies, while cloud clears in NSW as winds shift north. Monday stays sunny and warmer, but a weak front on Tuesday brings rain and only a light dusting of high snow.

Extended Forecast

Models agree the next front on Wednesday, August 6th, will weaken before arrival, bringing only light snow showers at best. However, the cold temperatures will benefit snow guns, with high pressure settling in for clear, cold nights through the end of the week.

Thanks for reading. The next forecast will be out on Monday.
