Heavy Weather Thursday Afternoon

Summary

Our next cold front will bulldoze through Thursday afternoon bringing a short dose of some wild weather. Snow showers will develop in advance of the fast moving front around noon and become heavier by mid-afternoon as cloud convection could bring a crack of thunder as well. Gusty west winds also develop with gusts to 35 mph. Total storm accumulations of 2 to 4 inches by nightfall Thursday.

At 7:00AM it’s 26 degrees in the Village and 30 degrees at the 8800’ level of Andesite Mountain. No new snow fell in the last 24-hours. Currently the skies are partly cloudy over Lone and Andesite mountains. Current winds at the top of Andesite (8850’) are blowing from the South at 7 mph with a recent gust to 21 mph.

Today, increasing clouds with snow showers developing right around noontime. As the cold front passes mid-afternoon, convective heavy snow showers could even bring a rumble of thunder to the mountain. Accumulations likely, 1 to 3 inches. High temperatures across the upper mountain locations (at 9000’) will be around 33 by noon, dropping to around 26 by 3pm as the cold front moves in. Winds will be blowing from the SW around 10 - 15 mph with gusts to 25 mph this morning switching to the West this afternoon 25 – 30 mph with gusts to 35 mph across the ridgetops.  

Extended Forecast:

Snow showers will continue Thursday evening with an additional trace to 2 inches possible. Friday, mostly sunny with upper mountain highs of around 32 degrees with light to moderate SW winds. After a sunny start Saturday, another Pacific cold front brings clouds and snow showers Saturday afternoon into Saturday night with 1 to 3 inches probable. For Sunday, a mix of clouds, flurries, a few sunny breaks but colder with highs at 9000’ of around 24 degrees.
