There and Back Again

Summary

Well that was a nice taste of spring. Fortunately/Unfortunately winter returns in earnest this week! Let's take a look.

Short Term Forecast

The first and strongest storm will move in very early Monday morning from the southwest. Snow levels will stay at right around 5k feet at most for the duration of the storm. We should see snow for most of the day Monday before ending in the late afternoon.

Amounts look really healthy for Bogus Basin right now with between 5-8 inches by the time the storm wraps up late tomorrow. Tamarack will fare pretty well with 4-7 inches. Brundage (due to the southwest flow) will see lesser amounts of 3-6 inches.

The second storm will move in on Tuesday but will be more of a glancing blow. Unfortunately, most of the energy will move south of us into Utah. This storm will be good for ski areas south of the Snake River. So basically Pomerelle.

Wednesday will be a nice day!

Sorry, Spring lovers.... winter ain't over yet. Another low pressure system is going to set up over the pacific northwest starting Thursday and will pump some pretty consistent moisture into the region for 2-3 days. I don't think we are going to see any big dumps but a few inches every day will make the resorts ride really well. Temperatures are going to be much colder than average as well so snow levels won't be an issue.

Check out the total precipitation for this week:

Not bad at all! Solid inch+ of precipitation across most resorts. Should translate to 12-20 inches of snow by weeks end.

So best days to ride will be Bogus on Monday/Tuesday. I think Tamarack will be good on Monday/Tuesday as well. Brundage I would look to ride maybe Thursday or Friday. They do well off of a west or northwest flow.

Extended Forecast

Winter is not ending anytime soon. At all. Check out the precipitation anomaly for the next 16 days:

And just for kicks check out the precipitation anomalies:

Not sure who made those sacrifices to Ullr last year but apparently, he didn't get the memo until this year. Good for us though! I would imagine that fire season is going to be non-existent this year since we will have snow on the mountains until July. ;-)
