High Freezing Levels Friday, Gradually Improving Conditions Saturday-Sunday

Summary

An atmospheric river event is underway with heavy precipitation spreading across all areas during the day Friday and into Friday night with freezing levels rising to 2,000 meters by the evening. A cold front will reach the Coast Range by around 5-6 a.m. on Saturday with falling freezing levels but lighter precipitation expected through the morning hours. Heavy precipitation will continue across the Interior before the cold front arrives late in the day with lingering snow and falling freezing levels through the evening. A secondary disturbance will bring additional light snow mainly to the Coast Range on Sunday, with freezing levels below base areas. Monday will be cold and dry, then the next storm will arrive from the northwest on Tuesday with improving conditions across the board as freezing levels will be at base areas. An active period will then continue with additional storms arriving from the northwest during the Wednesday, February 5th through Friday, February 7th time frame. A gradual warming trend is expected during this pattern, but freezing levels should remain at reasonable levels, especially compared to our current storm.
