Updated Snow Totals And Chase For CA, UT, CO
Summary
Snow is redeveloping in the northern Sierra (Cold Blower) while a warmer system is underway in Utah and Colorado. This warmer storm in the Rockies will move very slowly bringing some double digits to the northern areas of Colorado initially before moving south by Wednesday.
Update
Update 5 AM Monday:
If you are going to chase powder on Monday my main focus points are the northernmost Sierra (I-80 or north) where strong snow showers are going to bring another 5-9 inches on Monday. Temps are cold so what falls Monday will be very high quality. I would aim for the northern areas of the lake or along I-80. Even higher amounts will fall north of I-80. Caveat: let's hope the deepest pinks below edge a bit further south. All resorts around the lake will see some additional snow Monday morning (Blower) but amounts may stay within the 2-5 area). It's possible that I-80 and north grab higher amounts.
Next chase update- Utah- 8-11 inches in the Cottonwoods Monday morning. Stay at higher elevations for the best quality (Temps were on the warm side initially). Park City reported 9 inches with DV at 6. Less snow fell further north (Some resorts have not reported yet). Ride powder (Smooth, surf with a bit of colder frosting Monday morning) Snow will increase again by 10 AM Monday and bring another 2-4 inches to the Wasatch range.
In Colorado Steamboat and Rocky Mountain National Park seem favored for 3-6 inches Monday and another 3-6 for Tuesday morning. Total snowfall in these areas will be 8-12 inches. Ride Monday or Tuesday. Temps are -7C at 10K feet. Expect surfy powder mid-mountain, dense at the bases (less snow), and perhaps some decent surprises up top. The Summit County area will see 2-4 inches including I-70 into Eagle primarily Monday PM to Tuesday AM (W-NW wind shift). I would stick to the northern areas for the deepest snow
Below: Tuesday morning 10K temps showing a colder pocket for the Wasatch, Wyoming, and northern Colorado. Warm temps are found further south along I-70 in Colorado. Quality may lack until some cooler air arrives in Colorado Wednesday, but it never gets very cold (Dense snow or mixed precipitation possible at lower base areas)
That system edges south on Tuesday/Wednesday increasing the odds of moderate snow for the areas south of I-70. The Central Mountains (Aspen, CB) are favored initially before dropping into the San Juan Range Wednesday/Thursday. Temps are warm with this storm! I am not bullish on quality, but some spots might grab 5-10 inches at the summits midweek.
More later! Out the door.
