Season starts on Mon, Nov 14

Summary

Snow will return on Wednesday afternoon, and lifts will start spinning on Monday, November 14.

Update

Opening day is coming up next week with lifts scheduled to start spinning on Monday, November 14.

So let's get the Copper Daily Snow started for the season, and I'll continue to post an update every day through the end of the season in April.

So far this early season, Copper has received about 2 feet of snow, and the mid-mountain base is around 10-12 inches. This puts us above average for early November.

Below is a look at the upper mountain on Tuesday night thanks to the nearly full moon.

On Wednesday, the first half of the day will be dry with strong winds, then snow will start by late afternoon to around sunset time. The snow should fall heavily for a few hours during Wednesday evening and then transition to more scattered showers by late Wednesday night and throughout the day on Thursday.

Total snowfall from Wednesday evening through Thursday should be in the 2-4 inch range, and temperatures on Thursday will be cold with highs in the teens. While the storm that's moving through is powerful, snow totals will be limited by the storm's fast movement as well as the lack of moisture in the atmosphere and the rapid drying on the backside of the storm.

Friday, Saturday, and Sunday should be dry and partly to mostly sunny. Expect cooler temperatures in the teens and 20s on Friday and warmer temperatures in the 20s and 30s during the weekend.

Looking ahead to next week, there will be a low chance for snow during the early part of the week (opening day is Monday, November 14) and maybe again at the end of the week. The overall weather pattern will not be favorable for storminess over Colorado, so we'll need to get very lucky for a rogue storm to happen to track into or near Colorado. On the plus side, temperatures will stay chilly next week, so snowmaking should be possible across the entire mountain and this could help open additional terrain.
