The next storm arrives on Friday

Summary

We saw a little bit of extra snow on Monday, and now we'll have three days of dry weather before the next storm brings snow on Friday and Saturday.

Update

Monday delivered snow showers to the mountain. This occurred due to lingering moisture and storm energy that hung around northern Colorado even though the storm was already well to the east of the state.

The mid-mountain snow stake measured about 1 inch of snow during the day.

Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday will be dry days. On Tuesday and Wednesday, expect more sunshine with high temperatures in the 30s, and on Thursday, expect more clouds with high temperatures also in the 30s.

The next storm will bring snow from Thursday night to Saturday night. The most likely scenario is that the wind direction will not be favorable for a lot of snow from Thursday night to Friday night, and then the wind direction will become more favorable for snow from Friday night to Saturday night. I'll stick with a forecast for just low-to-moderate snow totals of 3-6 inches, and the best chance for some powder (or at least softer conditions) should be on Saturday and/or Sunday morning. Even though we likely will not see a lot of snow from this storm, temperatures will be cold with highs in the teens during the weekend, so snowmaking should be in full force across the mountain.

The longer-range forecast is not one that is favorable for storms, and I expect dry weather during the final four days of November and into early December. Temperatures during this time will be chilly with highs in the 20s and likely continued snowmaking. There is about a 30-50% chance for a storm during the December 2-5 range, so we'll be watching for that. To raise our snowpack back to average and to open a lot more terrain, we'll need at least one or two significant storms, and the odds for this are low through about the first week of December.
