Big Changes in the Models Over the Last Few Days

Summary

The models have undergone some significant changes over the last few days. The ridge standing between us and more storms is now expected to weaken and move out of the region as early as Wednesday of next week, followed by a potential series of storms. This is the news we wanted to hear!

Short Term Forecast

The ridge will remain until mid-next week before starting to weaken and drift to the east. This will open the storm door for several systems to arrive from the west and then the northwest and significant accumulations are possible during this time.

The first few storms look to be on the milder side, with cooler air arriving next weekend. Initially, the storms from the west would favor the western Alps, in the northern and southern French Alps. Since these new details have emerged just over the last few days, I'm not going to get into more details for now. I want to give the models a bit longer to sort this stuff out. I know you're sick of GIFs of the upper-level pattern, but you're going to look at at least one more.

This time, after a few days of the bright orange and red colors that indicate high pressure, we start to see the blues and purples of low pressure move in from the west and continue through the end of the GIF, which runs to 1/31.

Extended Forecast

The long-range models have this active pattern hanging around through the end of the month.

My next post will be on Sunday.

Thanks for reading the Europe Daily Snow!
