Thursday

The snow ramped up as scheduled on Wednesday night and delivered 2-6 inches for Thursday's reports. Beaver Creek and Winter Park lead the way with 6 inches so far. My final forecast called for 3-7 inches so I feel pretty good about how this has played out so far...

We'll now receive additional snow showers through Thursday morning ahead of mostly dry conditions beginning around midday Thursday. The storm has shifted a bit further south and east so any additional accumulations will be light. Temps will start in the teens and not move much throughout the day.

Friday

The skies will begin to clear through Thursday night, which will bring unseasonably cold temps through Thursday night and into Friday morning. For Friday, expect mostly sunny skies, temps in the teens, and maybe a few clouds and just a few flakes in the afternoon.

Saturday - Sunday

We'll then receive much of the same on Saturday and Sunday. Look for mostly sunny skies, temps in the teens to low 20s, and just a slight chance for a few flakes but these should really be confined to southern Colorado.

Travel Forecast

Wet, slushy, and snow-packed road surfaces will remain in place through midday Thursday. Minor travel impacts can still be encountered over the higher passes so plan for extra travel time.

Mostly dry road surfaces will prevail on Thursday afternoon and should remain in place on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Expect normal travel speeds outside of typical weekend traffic from Thursday afternoon through Sunday evening.

Wet road surfaces could then return early next week but I'm not expecting travel impacts until at least the second half of next week or around Wednesday, March 22 through Friday, March 24.

Extended Forecast

Next Week & Beyond

Following a mostly quiet weekend, we'll turn out attention to yet another very active week as you guessed it, another atmospheric river sets up along the West Coast. This will initially bring waves of light snow on Monday, Tuesday, and into Wednesday ahead of a shift in the pattern that should bring better chances for deeper totals during the second half of next week, March 22-24.

Looking further ahead, the atmosphere just doesn't want to stop as we'll likely see waves of snow continue through the rest of March. Even though I-70 hasn't already received the deepest totals this winter, it's been consistently cold and snowy and that's all we can ask for.
