Snow Over Donner Summit Saturday Night - Sunday...

Update

Friday:

We saw snow levels drop to around 7k early Friday morning, with some snow showers over Donner Summit. But the roads were still just wet with no travel restrictions as of 6 a.m. at the time of this writing.

Expecting the showers to clear out later in the morning with drier weather through Saturday.

Saturday Night - Sunday Storm:

Another storm moves in Saturday evening around 9-10 PM near Donner Summit and lasting into late Sunday morning. Scattered snow showers possibly lingering into Sunday afternoon before clearing. The storm is expected to begin as rain over Donner Summit Saturday evening, but snow levels lower Saturday night with rain changing to snow after midnight over Donner Summit. Snow levels continue to lower into Sunday morning.

Chain controls will start just over the top of Donner Summit from around Soda Springs to Donner Lake during the early morning hours Sunday but could drop to Kingvale by Sunday morning. Expect winter driving conditions and possible delays on Sunday morning. Then the roads should start to clear during the afternoon as the showers begin to dissipate and roads become just wet.

Next Week:

Another weak system with a chance for more snow on Tuesday. We will continue to watch the trend, but it looks like most of the precipitation stays to our north.

Expecting a drier pattern starting Wednesday through the end of the week.
