Couple inches of new snow Thursday before sunshine emerges this weekend

Summary

The mid-week warm-up put a crimp in the amount of potential snow predicted in the latest storm cycle, but things are cooling down now, and several inches of new snow are forecast on Thursday on top of several inches that fell overnight before the storm exits Idaho. Sunshine will prevail Friday-Sunday as Lookout Pass re-opens for the weekend and Schweitzer opens Sat-Sun for season pass holders.

Short Term Forecast

Schweitzer Mountain will be opening Saturday-Sunday for season pass holders from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. No day tickets will be available. The Basin Express lift will be running.

Several inches of snow are forecast at most of Idaho's ski areas today as the mid-week storm finishes with cooler temperatures and light snow. Skies will clear on Friday-Sunday before the next storm system moves in Sunday night/Monday.

5-day OpenSnow forecast is calling for a maximum of 4-5 inches of snow to fall at Schweitzer and Brundage, with several inches predicted elsewhere. These amounts of snow would come on Thursday and Thursday night before the storm system peters out and sunshine emerges this weekend.

Extended Forecast

Predictions for more snow next week, leading up to the planned Thanksgiving Day ski area openings, are trending more to the moderate side. 40-60 percent chance of snow is predicted Sunday night/Monday as the next storm moves in.

However, long-term weather maps indicate a good chance for copious amounts of snow by next weekend and beyond.

10-day forecast map from Weatherbell shows a good chance of up to a foot of new snow in the Central Mountains and the Idaho Panhandle.

15-day forecast map looks even better with a snowy pattern continuing over Idaho going into the first week of December.
