Sunny in S. Idaho, morning fog in N. Idaho for MLK weekend

Summary

High pressure continues to dominate the West. No new snow is forecast statewide Friday through the MLK holiday on Monday. Air stagnation due to high pressure is allowing fog and inversions to form in the valley floors. Should be a great long weekend to enjoy the sunshine and rip some groomers!

Short Term Forecast

Enjoy the freshly groomed slopes this weekend! (Courtesy Lookout Pass)

Sunny to partly cloudy skies are forecast in Southern Idaho for the long MLK holiday weekend. Ground fog is forecast at Schweitzer, Silver and Lookout in the mornings, and it should burn off in the afternoons.

High temperatures will be in the high 20s to low 30s in S. Idaho, and 20s in N. Idaho.

Extended Forecast

High pressure is forecast to continue dominating Idaho and the West for at least the next week, potentially through the end of the month.

This GFS forecast run (below) is for the next 10 days. There's a good chance of light snow at Lookout and Silver Mountain starting on Tuesday or next week, with several inches of accumulation possible through Thursday. Schweitzer might get an inch or so out of that mild storm cycle.

Thanks for reading! My next forecast will be on Monday, Jan. 17.
