AR storm delivers! Sunny and warm Thursday-Sunday

Summary

A cold front brought temps down Tues. night at the end of the AR event and created quite a *pow* day on Wednesday AM at Tamarack and Brundage. A power outage delayed lift openings by 2 hours, but it was worth waiting to shred 15" at Tam and 9-12" at Brundage. All of Idaho's ski areas had significant snow in the last 72 hours, and now it's time to enjoy sunshine Thurs.-Sun and temps in the 30s-40s.

Short Term Forecast

Thanks to Jeff Selmer in Donnelly for this pic of fresh *pow* at Tamarack Resort.

Notable snow totals over the last 72 hours:

  • Tamarack Resort - 26"
  • Sun Valley - 19"
  • Brundage - 16"
  • Silver Mountain - 10"
  • Lookout Pass - 10"
  • Schweitzer - 8"
  • Bogus Basin - 8"
  • Pebble Creek - 8"
  • Pomerelle - 6"

We've got high pressure aloft for the next 3.5 days statewide. Forecasts are for partly cloudy to sunny skies statewide. And I think everyone might be ready for a break from the snow, cold and wind so they can enjoy some bluebird skiing/riding conditions for a few days.

Temperatures will warm up progressively each day statewide. In N. Idaho, Schweitzer will be warming into the mid-30s by Saturday and Sunday, Silver will reach 39-40 degrees by the weekend, and Lookout looks really balmy with temps hitting the low 40s Saturday and Sunday. That'll create spring/corn snow conditions in the afternoons, and it'll be frozen and hard early in the mornings until things soften up again.

In Central Idaho, temps will remain more in the low 30s at Brundage and Sun Valley, while Tamarack will warm up to 37 degrees by Sunday. Bogus Basin will hit 39 degrees by Sunday, 37 degrees on Saturday.

Pomerelle will be warming up to the low 40s on Saturday-Sunday, and Pebble Creek will remain cooler hitting 31-33 degrees Saturday and Sunday.

Enjoy the sunshine and don't forget the sunscreen!

Extended Forecast

By Sunday afternoon-Sunday night, a Low pressure trough will move into Idaho and the Pacific Northwest, bringing a chance of snow every day next week.

Right now, only seeing a few inches each day statewide, but it appears that a more impactful storm event will occur by Wednesday-Thursday time frame next week, with 6" or more. We shall see.

Thanks for reading! My next forecast will be on Saturday, March 18.
