Steering Clear of Storms

Summary

As the final storm wraps up we'll see cold and and windy conditions for Thursday, January 19th. Going into this weekend we'll get warmer with sunny skies and lighter winds. A dry cold front swings through on Sunday into Monday with colder temps and stronger winds. All of next week should be dry and the pattern might start getting more active by the beginning of February...

Short Term Forecast

Thursday

I'm seeing reports of 3 - 5 inches of snow from the system that came through overnight. That's about an inch short of my forecast but I know it's still snowing in spots over the mtn so maybe we'll get the final number by tomorrow morning.

It's still super windy out there this morning with 70+ MPH gusts out on the summit. Those should come down some later this afternoon, but gusts up to 40 - 50 MPH can still expected out of the West Northwest.

Temps will be cold with highs in the teens over the summit and up to 20 at Main Lodge.

Friday - Weekend

A mostly sunny and calm weekend is in store for us. A welcome break after the weeks of heavy snowfall we've seen. Highs will be cool on Friday with teens and 20's and then 30's on Saturday and Sunday. Overall no precipitation is forecasted for the entire weekend.

Winds will come down through Saturday out of the Northeast into the 20 - 30 MPH before ramping up a bit on Sunday & Monday as a dry cold front swings through. 40 - 50 MPH winds out of the Northeast can be expected.

Monday

The cold front will leave much colder air in it's wake but still plenty of sun for Monday. Highs will be in the 20's and winds will continue to gust up to 40 MPH out of the Northeast.

Extended Forecast

Our well advertised dry period continues into all of next week. At this time I have no reason to believe we'll see anything but dry and sunny weather through next week January 28 - 29th. The first sign of a storm looks like it might show up the last day of January into early February.

It will stay cold through all of next week with highs in the 20's and low 30's. Mostly calm days with light winds and plenty of sun should make for excellent conditions.

Our pattern change is likely to be a slower build up with colder and drier storms early in February rather than the powerful atmospheric rivers we've seen for a while.

I'll keep you all posted.

Till the next one... Mike out.
