Mammoth Daily Snow

Heads up, there may be fresher snow! Read the latest Mammoth Daily Snow

Strong Winds and Cold Weather

Summary

Windy and cold weather for Sunday and Monday of this week. Cool temps continue through the week with plenty of sun. A quick warmup ahead of next weekend before we see temps drop again ahead of the next storm that the models are picking up on. Sunday and Monday, January 29th & 30th should bring us fresh snow. The outlook looks stormier and more active as we go into February...

Short Term Forecast

Sunday & Monday

Wind is the name of the game the next 2 days. Gusts up to 60 MPH are possible over the summit today, Sunday January 22nd. They will generally be out of the North/Northeast. 80 - 100 MPH gusts are possible overnight and into Monday, January 23rd.

Temps will get bitterly cold with these winds. Single digit summit temps are likely by later this afternoon, and with the wind chills it will feel even colder with negatives.

We'll see a mix of clouds and sun both days, but generally sunny conditions should prevail. Sunday will be in the low 20's for a high at the bases and Monday should be similar.

With the colder temps, and high winds you'll want to be bundled up out there. Lift operations will very likely be affected as the winds pick up during the afternoon. Sunday morning should be the nicest time, weather wise of the next 2 days.

Tuesday - Thursday

Overall the weather should be pretty pleasant throughout the week. Highs will be lower 30's and upper 20's. Winds should be much lighter as well with gusts only up to 30 MPH out of the Northeast. Plenty of sun and no storms for us.

Extended Forecast

Going into next weekend we have milder conditions with highs in the upper 30's on Friday before a cool down over the weekend.

The weekend will get more interesting as the models are now showing a weaker system coming through Sunday into Monday. As I had mentioned for the last week we were going into a drier pattern that had the chance to see colder inside slider systems with limited moisture but ample cold. That is what the models are showing for the Sunday, January 29th - Monday 30th timeframe.

At this time the amounts don't look overly exciting but fresh snow is always a treat. It's likely to be very cold with nice dry powder.

I'll be getting into more details we we get closer to the system. Going beyond that the chances continue to increase that we see a more active pattern emerge. Details, naturally will take a little while to figure out.

Enjoy the biggest base on the mtn in many years!

Till the next one... Mike out.
