Cool Weekend

Summary

Snow showers possible later this afternoon, while Sunday should be a beautiful day. Monday we'll warm up slightly and get more Southwest winds ahead of the storm. By Tuesday morning the storm will be here in earnest with low visibility, strong winds, and heavy snowfall. Snow showers are possible through Thursday morning. A break on Friday with more snow showers the first weekend of April.

Short Term Forecast

Saturday & Sunday

It will be a cool and mostly sunny weekend in our region. Temps will be in the mid 20's for the bases and likely in the teens over the summit. Winds should remain light and under 25 MPH out of the Northwest.

We still have a chance at some afternoon snow showers today on Saturday. As I've mentioned the last few days accumulations will be minimal to none. If anything we'll just get some beautiful clouds from the late March afternoon sun warming up the surface to induce convection.

Monday

The storm will still be off the coast on Monday. It will though warm our temperatures up a few degrees into the low 30's. As the storm pulls in South Southwest flow it will bring in warmer air. This warm air will get pushed out as the cold front arrives on Tuesday and we get much colder air associated with the center of the low pressure system. Monday we could see mostly sunny skies with more clouds in the afternoon and increasing Southwest winds up to 40 MPH.

Tuesday Storm & Wednesday Snow Showers

This will be a fairly quick hitting system that will drop moderate amounts of snow. Temps will be cool in the 20's at he bases and teens up on the mtn. Southwest winds will be quite strong on Tuesday with 70+ MPH gusts. You can expect plenty of lifts closed that day on the upper mtn.

The main part of the storm comes through Tuesday during the day and we could continue to see snow showers on Wednesday. The overall trajectory of this storm hasn't changed significantly and the precip amounts have stayed in the general 1.4 to 1.8 inch range.

My forecast for Main Lodge is dropping a couple inches because the models did trend down a little since yesterday. We could see 13 - 17 inches at Main Lodge by Thursday morning and up to 20 inches on the summit.

I'll update this again the next 2 mornings to fine tune the forecast but today's models were in decent agreement for about a foot and a half of snow at Main Lodge.

Extended Forecast

Both the GFS and Euro continue to show the chance we could see snow showers on next Thursday, the 30th. Accumulations would be quite minimal at best but by Friday morning the final tally for this storm could raise our total another inch.

By next Friday, the final day of March we should see sunny skies and temps in the 30's. The models have teased whether or not the first weekend of April will be sunny and spring like or wintery with snow showers. They are back to showing snow showers by the afternoon of Saturday, April's 1st. Maybe it's just a fools hope that spring is around the corner? Hah

At the time both the Euro and GFS shows the possibility of another weak system that goes into Sunday the 2nd. Accumulations are minimal at best but this is also well beyond the 5 day window. We'll have to see how thing shake out going into the first week of April...

Till the next one... Mike out.
