Flurries and Chilly Temperatures

Summary

Chilly temperatures today, with some flurries to start the morning. Wednesday looks to bring small snowfall amounts to the region.

Short Term Forecast

Good morning everyone, currently northern New England is in the mid 20’s, while CT and MA are hovering around freezing. VT and NH are both currently experiencing some orographic snow. These flurries won’t produce much in terms of snow accumulation. However if you’re heading out this morning to the Whites or the Greens, you’ll likely see some thin powder on the slopes. High pressure will begin to build on the heels of the cold front that swept through yesterday. This will cause a break in the clouds as the day moves forward. Northerly air will continue to pour into the region, causing temperatures to stay below freezing on the slopes today. Winds won’t be substantial at the base, but expect decent wind chill at the summit. Sitting on those lifts can be brutal sometimes, so pack an extra layer if you’re heading out!

Wednesday looks to bring a small amount of snowfall to the region. An Alberta clipper will swing a cold front through New England, bringing weak snow showers behind the front. Currently the models only show the northern tips of NH, VT, and ME receiving any snowfall from this system. However with orographic lifting, most slopes in the Whites, Greens, and Sunday River area should see around 1"-2" of powder. If you’re wondering what’s the best day to head out this week, Wednesday will likely have the best conditions. That’s your best bet for some decent powder runs in the morning. Extended Forecast

After a weak system brings a few flakes to the region on Wednesday, another ridge of high pressure will slide east, bringing a period of clearing and colder temperatures for Thanksgiving day. Highs are looking to be in the low 30s with calm winds, so if you have any plans to hit the slopes, it will be a beautiful day to do so in New England.

Another weak alberta clipper may graze northern New England on Friday, but the next storm we are keeping an eye on will make an appearance on Saturday. As of now, it looks to be a partial rain event, as warm air is ushered in ahead of the storm. However, this is subject to change as we move closer to the weekend. Here is the model outlook for Friday and Saturday:

Despite the potential for rain, next weekend is a big opening weekend for some major resorts. Some of them include: Cannon, Cranmore, Wildcat, Waterville, Bromley, Smugglers, and Stratton Mountain. After a week of favorable temperatures for snowmaking, this may be a great weekend to head out, weather permitting.

Keep checking back here for updates on how the next few systems will develop throughout this week.
