Another Solid Southerly Storm
Summary
The last in this series of southerly storms will bring another round of accumulationing snow to the central zone. The storm will linger through Wednesday morning before we enter a prolonged stretch of dry and warmer weather.
Short Term Forecast
Another storm gets underway today (Monday) with snow picking up in the afternoon. Temperatures are warm to start and snow levels will be around resort bases, and maybe a bit higher farther north. Throughout the day, however, a cold front will move through causing snow levels to fall. The heaviest snow will fall on Monday night and Tuesday, and in the central zone.
The models have been trending farther north with this storm, and the northern zone could get in on the action. The storm also looks to be exiting faster, with most of the snow wrapped up by Tuesday evening with just some snow showers overnight.
The latest snow forecast from the European model is below.
Snow totals from Nevados de Chillan through Volcan Osorno to the south should come in between 20 - 40 cm. Nevados de Chillan, Antillanca, and Volcan Osorno could exceed that range.
A few rain and snow showers are possible Thursday night and Friday but otherwise, the rest of the week looks dry.
Extended Forecast
The models have come into better agreement keeping any action to the south this weekend and early next week. The next chance for snow will be around Tuesday or Wednesday of the following week.
Next update on Wednesday.
