A Storm Next Week

Summary

Mostly sunny and dry conditions for the next 4 days. We will see cool temps and light winds. By Wednesday into Thursday snow chances increase for light snowfall amounts. We are likely to see a break in the weather going into the 1st weekend of April with more snow & rain chances the 1st week of April.

Short Term Forecast

Apologies for the later post. Ended up waking up and feeling a little worse for weather this morning. Hopefully I can start feeling better soon. Clearly, winter still wants to remain in control and provide me with a bug!

Saturday through Tuesday

You can expect mostly sunny and very nice weather over the next 4 days. Temps will be in the mid to low 30's and winds will generally stay under 25 MPH out of the West Northwest. By Monday winds could be out of the Southeast under 15 MPH. We could see clouds on Sunday and Monday.

As a storm approaches the California coast we will warm up on Tuesday into the low 40's. Winds will pick up a bit up to 30 MPH out of the Southwest by Tuesday afternoon. More clouds are likely as well by Tuesday afternoon.

Wednesday & Thursday Snow Showers

The storm that will be rolling into California will produce more significant impacts to the Northern Part of the state.

You can see on the Ensemble Mean for the GFS that the Northern half will get the lion's share of the precip and SoCal get's mostly the leftovers.

Temps will be cooler in the low 30's and upper 20's and the winds will definitely be a bit more gusty in the 30 - 40 MPH range out of the Southwest. But with regards to how much precip we could see it's not looking all that impressive. I'm going to wait another day before I make a snowfall forecast, but you can see that on the WPC, which is a higher resolution model we're seeing the highest amounts approach an inch of liquid.

That's in the San Gabriel's specifically so they could fare better in this storm cycle. We saw on the last one but the Big Bear resorts did really well so... it could go either way still.

Extended Forecast

Both the European and GFS ensemble runs show much drier weather overall going into the end of next wek and into the beginning of April.

The GFS shows a very slight chance for a snow shower or 2 on Sunday, April 2nd. But the Euro also shows it extending into potentially the following Monday & Tuesday. I'm not expecting much out of that, but it should keep us cooler and likely breezier.

Going into the 1st week of April we are likely to see drier weather but the Euro wants to bring in another chance for snowfall/rain by the end of the week and the the GFS is also on board with that idea.

We'll see what happens but naturally winter is winding down in most aspects, but the chances for snow showers and weak systems will remain.

Till the next one... Mike out.
