March Continues to Roar

Summary

A wintery day is in store for us on Wednesday. Heavy snowfall and high winds will continue throughout the day. Snow showers are possible Thursday morning. Friday through the weekend should be sunny and clear. Another chance for precip is in store for us by next Monday and more active weather is possible later in the week.

Short Term Forecast

Quick Storm Update

Mtn. High is reporting 4 - 6 inches already. Big Bear is at 1 inch so far. The storm is performing about as expected at this point.

Today will be a cold and windy day that will feel much more like winter than Spring. Temps will be in the low 30's and gusty Southwest winds will be up to 50 MPH on the exposed ridges. I know there's already some lift closures in place and that will continue through tonight.

Thursday Morning Snow Showers

The storm may clear out a little earlier than expected on Thursday. I do believe we'll still see lingering snow showers on Thursday morning. That will add to the final totals for this storm. Winds will die down considerably on Thursday in the 20 - 30 MPH range out of the West and West Northwest.

Temps are likely to be even colder as there's a lot of cold air associated with this storm. With the temps and snow showers it will still feel like winter on Thursday.

You can see below there's still more precip for next 36 hours that will produce us snowfall.

Snowfall Forecast

My snowfall forecast isn't going to change too much. I do think Mtn. High will hit at least 8 inches as I forecasted for the high end yesterday. They may even hit closer to 10 or 11 inches given that this storm is cold and has good forcing. The Big Bear Mtns. will get their snow today into tonight and i'm forecasting 5 - 10 inches for them with Snow Valley picking up maybe a foot.

Friday - Sunday Sun

You can see on the forecast below for Big Bear Mtn. Resort that Friday through Sunday should be very nice.

Temps will be warming into the mid 40's by Sunday and there will be plenty of sun along with light winds. Perfect spring conditions to get after it!

Extended Forecast

The models are showing a pretty good chance we'll see some form of precip next Monday, the 3rd into Tuesday, April 4th. It does not look like a big storm by any means.

Further into next week we could see another chance for precip and maybe more snow... but the GFS Ensembles are drier as they have been. So the verdict is still out on what might happen going into the first week of April.

I'll keep you posted.

Till the next one...Mike out.
