Update

The storm on Monday and Monday night was not a favorable set up for Steamboat as the wind direction was from the south while a favorable wind is from the west and west-northwest.

But a line of intense precipitation overwhelmed the bad wind direction and dumped a lot of snow on Steamboat.

On Monday, snow amounts were 4-5 inches during the day.

On Monday night, an additional 6 inches fell at the Summit Snow Stake.

And on Tuesday morning between 5 am and 9 am an additional 2inches fell at the Summit Snow Stake, adding up to about 12 inches. Yowzers!

This snow should end by mid-morning on Tuesday, and we’ll take the ‘extra’ snow especially since this storm wasn’t the typical type of storm that would deliver this large total to Steamboat.

Looking ahead, we should see at least partly sunny skies on Tuesday afternoon and much of Wednesday, then the next storm should bring snow starting on Wednesday night and flakes should fall all day on Thursday with snow tapering off on Thursday evening. Expect 5-10 inches from this system with the softest turns on Thursday afternoon and perhaps Friday first chair.

After that, we’ll see a few more days of dry weather on Friday, Saturday, and at least part of Sunday, and then we could see another storm between about Sunday evening and next Tuesday.

Thanks for reading and stay tuned for an update each morning!
