Update

Thursday Morning Powder (?)

On Wednesday, we were expecting at least moderate snow, but we missed all of the stronger cells and only saw a coating to an inch. Then on Wednesday night, the wind blew from the north, which is a bad direction for Steamboat, and again we saw just a coating to an inch.

However, now early on Thursday morning, I see about 3 inches of fluffy snow on the summit snow stake cam, which accumulated between about 3-6am, and if we can keep these snow showers going, you will wind up finding some soft snow on the mountain this morning. Stick to the groomers as there is nothing better than fluffy powder on top of corduroy.

Thursday & Friday

A flow from the west-northwest and northwest should keep snow showers going over northern Colorado. Accumulations are tough to pin down during these situations, but we should see at least a few additional inches during the day and again at night, so conditions should stay soft and fun as long as we do not see many breaks of sunshine (the high April sun angle can turn the new powder to mush pretty quickly).

Closing Weekend

A storm will stay well to the south and east of Steamboat, so we’ll likely see just a chance for a shower on Saturday afternoon, and then sunny and warmer weather on Sunday with a high temperature in the 30s to low 40s. Closing day is Sunday, April 14th.

Thanks for reading and check back each morning for daily updates!
