Update

Monday started with sunshine and the temperature topped out in the mid-30s. We saw more clouds in the afternoon as moisture moved in from the southwest in advance of the upcoming storm.

This next system is on track to bring snow from Tuesday through Thursday and maybe even into Friday. While the weather models are not super excited about snowfall because the storm will be weak and move through in multiple, disjointed pieces, I am cautiously optimistic because we’ll see adequate moisture and the chance for snow over three days, and these factors could wind up delivering more snow (or at least softer ski conditions) than we expect.

Tuesday will bring light snow, Tuesday night should bring moderate or times of more intense snow, and then on Wednesday snow showers should continue. The snow total through Wednesday afternoon will likely be in the 5-10 inch range and Wednesday should be at least a moderate powder day.

Wednesday night, Thursday, and Thursday night is the wildcard. Models show moisture lingering over northern Colorado with additional waves of weak energy. It’s possible that we could see more snow during this time which could make Thursday and/or Friday fun and soft days. The summit snow stake is the best way to watch the accumulation in real-time and to see if the atmosphere wants to deliver us a surprise.

After this storm, it is likely that we’ll see mostly dry weather from about Friday evening, January 24th through about Sunday evening, January 26th. A few snow showers and some clouds will likely also be in play over the weekend, but there will not be significant snowfall.

Then the next storm should bring snow starting around Monday, January 27th with chances for snow continuing through at least Wednesday, January 29th. And looking out into the fantasy range of weather forecasting, beyond 15+ days, most models show a stormy period with a northwest storm track during early-to-mid-February. This would be good news for us. Fingers crossed.
