Fresh snow on Wednesday morning at Steamboat

Summary

There is fresh snow to enjoy on Wednesday morning and snow is in the forecast through the weekend.

Short Term Forecast

Tuesday was dry, warm, and partly sunny.

On Tuesday night, a quick round of snow dropped 2-3 inches across the mountain, and snow showers are still falling as I write this on Wednesday at 700am. Enjoy this new snow on Wednesday morning!

During Wednesday and Thursday, we should see periods of snow showers and periods of dry weather. Overall, the wind direction from the southwest is not favorable for big snow totals, but each round of snow showers could drop at least a coating to a few inches.

Then a from later Friday through Saturday, a powerful storm will track through southeastern Colorado and will bring a lot of snow to other parts of the state including the Denver area, but will likely not bring much snow here. The main impact from this early part of the storm will probably be gusty winds from the east on Saturday which could slow some lift operations.

The better news is that from Saturday afternoon through Monday, the strong storm will move away to the east and the counter-clockwise rotation around the storm means that our wind direction will change to blow from the west and northwest which is more favorable for us. This could be when we see steadier snow and potential powder with at least 3-6 inches and likely more.

Extended Forecast

The next storm should arrive in Colorado around Tuesday and Wednesday, March 16-17. We’ll need to wait and see how the weekend storm evolves before dialing in the forecast for potential powder days during the early and middle part of next week.

Thanks for reading and check back each morning for daily updates!
