Weekend snow at Steamboat

Summary

Friday will be mostly dry, then we’ll see snow from Saturday through Sunday. Sunday should be the best chance for a fun powder day. Another storm will arrive early next week.

Short Term Forecast

Thursday was a mixed day with times of sunshine and times of snow showers. About 1 inch of snow accumulated across the mountain late on Thursday afternoon into Thursday evening.

Friday will be a mixed day with some sunshine, some clouds, and maybe a few snow showers as well.

From Friday night into Saturday morning, a large, slow-moving storm will approach but we will likely not see much or any snow during this time.

From Saturday late morning or midday through Sunday evening, we will see periods of intense snow push over the mountain with 5-10+ inches of accumulation. Usually, a wind from the northeast is very unfavorable for snow, but this storm will be strong enough that it should (I hope) be able to overwhelm the bad wind direction. The best chance to enjoy powder should be on Sunday.

On Sunday night into Monday, snow should wind down, but on Monday morning, there could still be fun powder stashes to enjoy.

From Monday night through Wednesday morning, the next storm will bring snow and there is a good chance for at least soft turns later on Tuesday and/or on Wednesday morning. If the storm comes together perfectly, maybe we’ll get enough snow for deeper turns during this time.

Extended Forecast

Later next week, March 18-19, should be drier days.

Then we will likely see another storm sometime between March 20-24 though it is too soon to figure out any details. Stay tuned.

Thanks for reading and check back each morning for daily updates!
