Ramping up to a midweek storm

Summary

Sunday will be dry, we could see some snow on Monday and Tuesday, then a stronger storm will arrive on Wednesday.

Update

Saturday offered fresh snow in the morning, then clouds hung around for a lot of the day with some sunshine as well. Temperatures climbed into the teens and 20s during the day.

On Saturday night into early Sunday morning, skies are partly cloudy and the nearly full moon is illuminating a snowy landscape.

Weatherwise, Sunday will be dry with temperatures in the 20s.

Then Monday and Tuesday will be mixed days with warm-ish temperatures in the 20s, mostly cloudy skies, times of dry weather, and also times of snow showers. On Monday and Tuesday, the storm energy will be weak, but the moisture content in the atmosphere will be high, so it'll only take a little spark of storm energy to turn this moisture into snow. Chances for accumulating snow on Monday are a little lower and chances for accumulating snow on Tuesday are a little higher. Snowfall from Monday through Tuesday could be anything from just a dusting to 5-10 inches. I have low confidence in this forecast, so we'll watch the snow stake cams and see what happens.

From Tuesday night through Wednesday afternoon, the main storm of the week will move across Colorado. I expect 4-8+ inches of snow with the best powder likely during the day on Wednesday and a low chance that some snow continues on Wednesday night which would provide a little more powder on Thursday morning.

Following the midweek storm, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday will be dry with temperatures in the 20s to low 30s. Then a stormy period will begin around Sunday, January 15, or Monday, January 16, and the stormy period could continue for about one week, through around Sunday, January 22.
