Snow on Tuesday, snow on Wednesday

Summary

There is powder on Tuesday morning, and the next round of snow will deliver powder on Wednesday.

Update

Monday was mostly dry, then on Monday night, a surge of moisture and scattered storm energy delivered 6 inches of snow at mid-mountain. I had low confidence about snow amounts for Monday night and I am happy to see 6 inches on the snow stake as of 5:00 a.m.

Monday night's storm will deliver additional snow through Tuesday at about noon, so we could see another 3-5 inches of accumulation on top of the 6 inches that fell on Monday night. Temperatures are in the 20s, so this new snow is likely a bit denser than what we normally see.

Tuesday afternoon into Tuesday evening should be dry with maybe just a few snow showers, then the next round of snow will fall from Tuesday night through Wednesday night.

On Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, the wind direction from the southwest will not be favorable so I am expecting lower snow totals, maybe a few inches.

On Wednesday, the wind direction will be from the west and west-northwest which is favorable and could lead to 5-9 inches of snow accumulation with the powder getting softer and deeper through the day.

On Wednesday evening from about sunset to midnight, we could see continued light snow, though the wind direction might be a little less than favorable (from the northwest), and if this new wind direction happens, it will limit additional snowfall.

From Thursday through Saturday, expect dry weather with mostly sunny skies and comfortably warm high temperatures between the mid-20s and the mid-30s.

Then a stormy period will begin on Sunday, January 15 with three storms likely between then and Saturday, January 21.
