Snow, wind, and a southern storm track

Summary

Snow fell on Tuesday, and now the southern storm track is not favorable for additional snow.

Update

On Tuesday, we were in between a departing storm to the east and an incoming storm to the west. During this time, I thought that a favorable wind from the west could deliver some snow, and in typical Steamboat fashion this season, more snow fell than I expected, and in just a few hours on Tuesday morning, we saw 4 inches at mid-mountain and 8 inches at the summit.

On Tuesday night, the surprises ended, the wind shifted to blow from the east, and the wind became strong and gusty, as expected. These 50mph gusts scoured the snow surface as we can see in the snow stake cam below.

On Wednesday, I expect continued gusty winds from the east and little to no snow as the storm track over southern Colorado is not favorable for Steamboat.

On Wednesday night, as the storm departs, we might see a few snow showers as the wind switches back to blow from the west and northwest, though moisture will be low and I don't expect much or any snow accumulation.

From Thursday through Saturday, we will see dry weather and mostly sunny skies. The temperature on Thursday will be chilly with a high in the single digits, then Friday and Saturday will be warmer with highs in the 20s.

Looking further ahead, the weather is going to turn stormy with multiple chances for snow as we close out the final 10 days of February. We could see snow showers on Sunday, February 19, a chance for significant snow sometime between February 20-22, and then another storm could arrive later next week around February 23-24. And there could be yet another storm sometime around February 27. Good stuff:-)
