Cool & Breezy Weekend, Then Extended Dry/Mild Pattern?...

Summary

- Chance of morning showers Thursday with clearing in the afternoon and cooler temperatures. Mountaintop winds gusting to 50+ mph. Highs lowering in the 50's at lake level and 40's on the mountains. - Cooler temperatures persist into the weekend. Another system could brush us with a few sprinkles on Saturday with another round of gusty winds. Clearing for Sunday. Highs still in the 50's. - Next week high-pressure builds in with sun and warming temperatures. Highs into the 60's all week. - The dry and mild pattern could last until the end of the month.

Short Term Forecast

The system moving through overnight performed as expected. It brought a few light showers with a dusting of snow on the mountains above 8,000 feet. Below is the High Camp deck at Squaw Valley this morning with a fresh dusting of snow on it.

We have gusty winds for Thursday gusting up to 50 mph. The main story will be cooler air going into the weekend, with highs in the 50's at lake level and 40's on the mountains as the trough digs into the West.

The 2nd system moves through on Saturday and looks to have even less of a chance of bringing a few light showers this far south, but reinforces the cooler air. We are expecting gusty winds again with gusts up to 60 mph on the mountain tops. Then nicer weather for Sunday.

Extended Forecast

High pressure builds in next week with dry and warming weather. Highs into the 60's starting Monday and maybe even a bit warmer later in the week.

No signs of any storms returning right now until at least the very end of the month. Most of the long-range models continue to show high pressure over CA through the end of October.

We will continue to watch the pattern for any changes going into November that might bring storms...

I just finished putting together a September recap and seasonal snowfall recap now that the water year is over for 2018-19. I didn't want to make this post too long, so I'll have that post out tomorrow!

Stay tuned...BA
