Fresh snow this weekend

Summary

We'll see dry weather on Friday, a wave of snow on Friday night, and another wave of snow possible from Saturday to Saturday night.

Update

More terrain is now open and we are looking ahead to the next storm.

In the meantime, Friday will be dry, partly sunny, and warm-ish with a high temperature of about 30°F.

On Friday night into Saturday, the first part of the weekend storm should bring a period of intense snow close to or over the mountain. Accumulations could be anything from a coating to 2 inches if the storm cells just miss us, to 4-6+ inches if we happen to see the more intense snow track directly over the mountain. So watch for possible fresh snow (of thicker snow quality) on Saturday, and our high temperature will be in the 20s.

On Saturday evening, Saturday night, and through most of Sunday, the second part of the weekend storm should deliver an additional few inches of snow, and temperatures on Sunday will be cooler, with a high in the teens.

This storm will have a lot of moisture and it will strengthen over eastern Colorado, and both of these factors increase the likelihood of getting a least a little more snow compared to what the model forecasts are predicting. Let's hope this happens.

Following the storm, Monday (Christmas day) should bring lingering clouds with a high temperature in the teens, then the final six days of 2023 will likely be dry with high temperatures becoming warmer and staying mostly in the 20s. Looking ahead to early 2024, there is a chance for a storm during the first five days of the year, though a storm is certainly not a guarantee at this point.
