Storms return to the coasts late this week

Summary

Following multiple feet of snow along the west coast and east coast during the first few days of March, we’ll see dry weather for the beginning of this week, and then storms will once again hit the west coast and east coast late in the week and weekend (March 8-11).

Short Term Forecast

Sometimes, the atmosphere can be kind, making right on past wrongs.

Past wrongs include very dry weather in California for most of the winter, and weeks of warm weather along the east coast during February.

Then, during the last few days (the first few days of March), the atmosphere said ‘I’m sorry’ to these areas and dumped multiple feet of snow on California and also on the east coast. I know that it was hard to keep spirits up in these areas during the rough weather of February, but the atmosphere always likes to remind us that past performance does not guarantee future results!

Coming up, most of the US and Canada will see a few days of dry weather from Monday through Wednesday of this week (March 5-7), though the upper Midwest will experience a strong storm that could bring blizzard conditions.

Then, starting around Thursday, March 8, a storm will bring snow to the northwest, and the midwest blizzard should move east and bring another storm to New England.

Looking ahead to Friday and the weekend (March 9-11), the northeast should see snow linger behind the Thursday system, and the west coast and Rockies should see snow at some point between Friday and Sunday as a weak-to-moderately strong storm pushes inland from the Pacific Ocean.

Extended Forecast

Beyond the weekend of March 10-11, it looks like the following week of March 12-16 will offer cooler weather and a storm for the east, with perhaps warmer weather for most of the Rockies.

Later in this period, between about Friday, March 16 and Sunday, March 18, the area of cooler weather and storminess over the Pacific Ocean should head east and bring snow to the west coast and perhaps the Rockies as well.
