The powder party will continue

Summary

The northeast scored 1-2 FEET of snow from the last storm, California is on the storm train with two storms through the weekend, and the Rockies have a lot of terrain open thanks to multiple storms during November. Good news all around!

Short Term Forecast

Lots of terrain is open!

Thanks to multiple storm cycles during October and November, Vail Mountain in Colorado opened many of their back bowls just after Thanksgiving. Powder party indeed!

Other mountains across the west are offering lots of terrain, included Grand Targhee in Wyoming, which is 100% open with a base depth of just over 4 FEET of natural snow.

Forecast for Thursday & Friday

The northeast will continue to see snow showers following the strong Nor’ Easter that plowed through the region earlier in the week.

Across the west, a strong storm will dump 1-2 FEET of snow on California and then should bring 6-12 inches to parts of Utah and Colorado.

Forecast for the weekend

It appears that a new storm will bring snow to California and southern Utah/Colorado as well as Arizona and New Mexico. However, forecasts for this storm have changed every six hours so I have low confidence in the details.

By the end of the weekend, a storm should hit the northeast, but this system will be warm and will likely bring ~12 hours of rain to most areas from later Sunday into Monday.

Forecast for next week

The big message for next week will be cold temperatures over most of the United States. In terms of snowfall, there might not be big totals, just lighter amounts over the west and downwind of the Great Lakes.

Extended Forecast

Heading into mid-December, it appears that the west will see drier and warmer weather between about December 8-12. During the same time, the northeast will likely remain chilly, with warmth potentially returning a few days later.

Thanks for reading and look for the next forecast on Monday, December 3.
